Sale Today and Tomorrow (Plus New Designs!)

To get $5 off orders over $30* thru 10/14 use  Coupon Code SOCT1130.*
*See full sale details at Thought Provoking Shirts.

*****

This funny design is perfect for those days when you wish everyone would just be quiet.  It's a kinder, more gentle version of a much more explicit expression.  Which, let's face it, STFU may be more fun to say, but not always appropriate.  The graphic is a cartoon duck with a talk bubble showing that it is saying 'Quack' over and over.  Underneath the image the words 'Please shut the duck up' are written.

Here we have a red Hello my name is sticker and the name is Nan Yabee Sinese.  Get some laughs at parties or family get-togethers by wearing a t-shirt or hat with this funny design.  They might have to sound it out for a second, but soon they'll realize that you're telling them your name is 'None of your business.'  The graphic is located in the left pocket area of the shirts (for most styles) so it resembles an actual sticker.

Well, those first two designs were made for people who like to throw around a bit of attitude now and then.  Now, for rock and roll, guitar, and pirate lovers ... we give you these:

This graphic features a skull with an eyepatch and instead of crossbones it has two black electric guitars behind it.  Under the image is the wording:  Rock all day Pirate all night.

If you or someone you know plays  an acoustic guitar, this would make a great addition to your home or a wonderful Christmas gift idea.  We have three styles of wall clocks featuring an acoustic guitar and the words Time to Play.  The numbers on the clock face are guitar picks.  Background color is in beige.

Late Night Musings

Well, I was sitting here working on designs for the store when I decided it was too quiet and I needed music. I started listening to my newest compilation of songs that I burned to a CD.

God, sometimes I love technology. To be able to download almost any song you can think of and then put it on a CD or an MP3 player in whatever order you want with a couple clicks of a mouse or key strokes makes me giddy with happiness. Hey, I already said it was late, I'm entitled to be giddy over weird things at this hour.

Anyway, my main point of writing is to say that my favorite song of the moment is Lady Gaga's You and I. This is one of those songs that I could put on repeat for hours and not get tired of.

I remember last season on American Idol Hailey was actually given permission by Lady Gaga to sing it before it was even released. I think I thought it was catchy then, but now I am head over heels in love with it.

I love the beat, and the lyrics make me visualize scenes in my head, which to me is what a good song should do. I like Gaga's slight growl as she says 'there's only three men that I'm gonna serve my whole life, it's my Daddy, and Nebraska, and Jesus Christ, Yes.'

I like quite a lot of Lady Gaga's songs. Almost all of them are catchy and get stuck in my head. Some of her behavior I find questionable, mostly the meat dress. But I have the tendency to believe that is her theatrical side, and I guess it works for her.

If you haven't heard this song, I suggest that you give it a listen. Even if you are skeptical about it, just try it. You might like it.

That's all.

Commemorative 10 Year Anniversary 9/11 Designs

I have made a few memorial graphics for the 10 year anniversary of the September 11th attacks. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the 9-11 Memorial Fund.

This graphic says

9/11/01,
Forever changed.Forever United.
9/11/11
Never Forgotten.
The words never forgotten are filled in by an
American Flag.
T-shirts, stickers and more.

This patriotic design has the date 9.11.01 above an oval of blue sky with clouds in it. There is an American Flag against the backdrop of the sky. On the corner of the oval there is a yellow ribbon that says 10 years. Under the image is the date 9.11.11 and the words: We have not forgotten.

See it on t-shirts, bags and more.

Also available without the yellow ribbon.

This memorial design says 9-11-01 / 9-11-11 curved above a waving American flag. Under the graphic reads: 10 Years, We will always remember. Lettering and dates are in light blue.

Available on t-shirts and other apparel as well as home furnishings.

The dates 9-11-01 / 9-11-11 and two blue buildings (representing the

North and South tower memorial lights) are set against the backdrop

See it on key chains, shirts and more.

9/11 Ten Year Anniversary - My Personal Recollections

It's so hard to believe that it's been 10 years since September 11th or the term 9-11 became something that evokes memories of airplanes slamming into buildings, the World Trade Center towers collapsing down into themselves and dark smoke blotting out the skyline of Manhattan.

Then, the terrifying news that there was a bomb at the Pentagon. Which later turned out to be a plane. As it was happening there was so much information being reported that alot of it was either completely wrong or the details were incorrect.

The fourth plane went down in a field in Pennsylvania and it was later thought to be heading for either the White House or the Capital.

Along with the thoughts of the bad things that happened that day, there also comes to mind some heart-warming emotions. The bravery of the all the people who gave their lives for others as well as the heroic rescues that continued for days afterwards. Also, the way people came together to help others, sharing their emotional burdens with them.

I would like to share my personal journal entries from that day and a couple days afterward.

9/11/01
September 11, 2001 is certainly going to be a day that goes down in the history books. Today four commercial planes were hijacked and crashed into various places. The first two crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The third into the Pentagon and the other in Pennsylvania in a field, but they think it was probably destined for somewhere else.

The coverage has been on all day. They're saying it was a terrorist attack but no one's stepped up to claim it.

It's been scary today. Just because you were never sure what might happen next. Hopefully it's over. My state is in a state of emergency. Every airport in the US has closed. That happened this morning after the second plane crash. They closed most businesses early and evacuated all the high rise buildings downtown.

It is absolutely horrific what's happened today. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families. The Twin Towers collapsed. It looks like they were never even there. I've been watching the coverage non stop since I got home from work and although I know what happened and it is slowly sinking in, there is still this shocked disbelief that goes along with it. I know it's nothing compared to the people that were/are actually there but [that's how I feel.]

9/13/01
Well, the news coverage since Tuesday has been non-stop. I've been watching whenever I can. Yes, you hear alot of the same stuff over and over again, but you never know when something new will develop. I've even been listening to Talk Radio news programs the last couple days.

This is my generations historical event. We've been through other crises but none that happened virtually in our own backyard.

On Tuesday it didn't really hit me until I started to hear the personal accounts of people. And that's when it upset me. Before that it was bad, sad, horrible, all those things and more, but to hear people talk about loved ones that called them just before their planes went down was heartwrenching.

Yesterday, but especially today, since the smoke has finally started to clear you can really get a good look at what the downed buildings look like. They're gutted and split. It's incredible. Where the World Trade Center stood is just a mass of twisted, mangled metal, covered with gray dust. It's just everywhere.

9/17/11
This whole idea of war is really scary. The more I think about it the more bummed out and freaked out I get. Maybe it was naive, but I really didn't think anything like this would happen in my lifetime. I guess I had thought about it, but it's one of those things that are entirely different when you think about it, compared to when it actually happens.

Hopefully everything is going to be alright. But, it's weird. It's like things have really changed since the attacks happened. Not so much in the literal sense because I'm still doing the same things I always have, I guess it's my mentality. I know when I see a plane in the sky now (which are few and far between, by the way) it freaks me out a little bit. It's no longer, Oh, that's just a plane. Now it's more like, There's a plane, I wonder if it's getting ready to crash into something. F--king crazy. F--king scary.

So I wonder how things will have changed once this is all over with? And will it ever be all over with? Even once this is taken care of will there always be the threat of more attacks?

***

Now, ten years later I know that at some level this war will probably always go on, and it probably always was going on in one form or another. I know that in May our wonderful Navy Seals took out Bin Laden. I no longer feel the same fear when I see a plane transverse the sky, at least not to the same degree as in the beginning. But, I have never forgotten, nor will I ever, the events of September 11, 2001 and the impact that they had on me and the entire rest of the world.

Keep Calm and Carry On (Sort of)

I've added some new choices to our Keep Calm and Carry On parody shirts.  Hurricane Irene blew some inspiration my way and I have made a couple to remember her by.  Not like she won't be remembered by other things, like knocking down trees all over the place, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power for days on end, turning ordinary streets into rivers and just pulverizing the hell out of a huge chunk of the East Coast.  I think my newest graphic offers some pretty good advice when faced with a hurricane.  What do you think?

Sale Today

Take 10% off orders over $40.  ALL DAY TODAY!

 Use the Coupon Code:  AJUL1140

I've added some new designs to our already expansive collection.  The above mentioned sale applies to all of our graphics, including the new ones.

This one is for the TV show Castle.  It has Beckett written above Castle, then the two names are joined by a line.  On another line that is offshooting from the connecting line is the name Caskett because that is the nickname that the Kate and Rick shippers have coined for this couple that won't come clean about their feelings for each other.
And Always is their way of saying You're welcome, especially when it comes to something as meaningful as saving each other from certain death.

So, I was sitting around one day thinking about how pirates say "Arrrr" and all the funny things that can be done with that.  This is what came to mind.  The image portion of the design is a white skull on a blue background with two swords crossed under it's chin.  Above it reads:  Pirates don't wear T-shirts and below it states They wear Arrr shirts!
I think it would be pretty entertaining to wear one on Talk Like a Pirate Day.  (It's September 19th, mark your calendar!)

This is another version of the yellow smiley face with it's mouth zipped shut.  It's such an amusing graphic I decided to make this rendition with the phrase Zip it underneath his big ol' head.
It should probably be noted - I am easily amused.  But, I'm pretty sure there are some other people out there who share this trait with me.  C'mon, you know who you are.

Also available on shot glasses, hats and men's and women's underwear.

I'm sure some time in the last 5 minutes you have heard a person use the word epic to describe an event, a tv show, a book, a song, a stain on the carpet, a loud burp ... the possibilites are endless.  I'm guilty of it myself, it's such a fun word to just throw into a conversation.                                                                            Especially when I'm talking with my folks.  Although, I have to admit, this being the internet age and all, they really are not that far behind on the times.  My father gleefully shouts OMG loudly and often during football games, usually followed by a round of expletives that he doesn't know text speak for.  This design is my nod to all things epic and it simply says It was EPIC.

Well, everybody - that's all for now.  Take advantage of the sale and get yourself something that'll make you smile.  I'll be back soon.

Another Keep Calm and Carry On Parody

This is my newest design.  It's another twist on the Keep Calm and Carry On saying.  That is a fun phrase to play around with.

This version says Keep Calm and Pick On in blue letters and above that there is a silver guitar pick.

Some products such as the rectangle magnet and posters have a light blue background behind the graphic.

Drink up! After All it's Only Brain Surgery

Alright, I admit it.  I watch a great deal of television.  It's something to do, it entertains me, sometimes I even learn from it.  Quite often it makes me go what the hell?

I have noticed that in most shows that center around hospitals and doctors that quite often at some point a doctor will open a desk drawer and pull out a bottle of the hard stuff.  They then drink it as is or add it to whatever liquid might already be in their cup.  And yes, anyone who has ever watched House knows that he pops Vicodins like they're Viagra and he's Hugh Hefner, that's one of his character traits.  So, I'm not even referring to that.

The last hospital show I think I saw it in was Hawthorne, which I just started watching.  But, there was a tense conversation between the head of the hospital and an employee and after the employee left the HOH pulled some type of liquor out of one of his desk drawers.

The other place I see people regularly indulging in a swig or two is crime shows.  Cops, FBI agents, US Marshals, if there is a show about a particular agency then someone on it probably has unearthed a bottle of some kind of booze from a drawer.  I know I have seen it happen on my beloved Fringe (although I can't remember if anyone actually drank it or not.) and In Plain Sight.  There's been more instances but I didn't write them down and my mental notes, they're a little chaotic and disappear easily.

My point is ... it probably is not the best idea to drink alcohol at any job.  But, when that job entails you slicing someone open and playing with their insides or pointing a gun and, well, I was going to say firing, but just pointing a gun is bad enough then it should be an even bigger no-no.  I just find it interesting how often I see it.  At any job I've ever had, if I was caught with alcohol there would've been some major repercussions.  But I guess that's TVland for you.

Just my thoughts.

New Parody Designs

A few new graphics are up and they are some funny parodies that I came up with.

This design that says 'Keep Calm and Play On' with an acoustic guitar in a green circle above it is a play off of the famous Keep Calm and Carry On Posters with the Crown above the words.  The poster originally came out around World War 2 and has recently become one of the most popular ones for people to recreate with their own saying.
This version would be a great idea for people who enjoy playing the guitar.

Click here for all products with this design.

In today's age of technology and instant gratification no matter what kind of task you are undertaking, information you need, or game you want to play there is an app for that.
This is my take on that.  It says 'Bored? Unmotivated? Indifferent?  There's a meh for that.'
For a word that is only one syllable and 3 letters and is more of a grunt than anything else meh has become one of the most recognized ways to convey a general feeling of boredom or lack of interest.

Click here to see more items with this message.

I think this might be my newest favorite design.  It is a yellow smiley face except instead of smiling there is a zipper that has been zipped shut across it's mouth and underneath the graphic it says 'Shut your piehole.'
Because sometimes you have those days when people tell you to have a nice day or some other facsimile that they probably don't even mean and you just want to tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine and shut their piehole.

To get one or see more items with this graphic click here.

All of the above are available on many different types of short and long sleeve tee shirts as well as stickers, magnets and other things like drink coasters and reusable wall decals with a special adhesive that won't harm your walls.

The Beagle and the Tale of the Invisible Dirt

I love my beagle.  She is the cutest thing.  Her body is mostly black with a little brown and white thrown in on her sides and legs.  The very tippy tip of her tail is white and her head is mostly brown with a white stripe between her eyes.  Since it's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, here:
See, she's adorable.  She was young here, just a puppy so she's a little whiter around the muzzle now but you get the drift.

Ever since the stork dropped her off she has this weird thing she does sometimes.  When she is given a treat she will walk around and look for a spot to hide it.  But, the entire time she is "hiding" it she whines so it's not like she's being stealthy and no one knows where she is.  She emits her own little tracking signal.

A Round of Driving Lessons for Hollywood

I often wonder why on television shows and in movies it seems that NO ONE can come to a nice uneventful stop in a car.  When is the last time you saw someone pull up in front of a house, building, or into a driveway without having the car rock forward and then backwards as though gravity suddenly became horizontal and hicupped?  Plus add in the little squeal/screech of brakes, even when it is not an urgent matter.  I realize that tv and movies add in sound effects and extra visuals to tickle our senses, but squealing tires every time?  That's just one more thing that makes me go hmmm...
There's a lot of those.

Damn Misheard Lyrics

Do you ever think you know the words to a song and then you find out that they are not what you thought and it changes the meaning of the song for you?

I looked up the guitar chords to St. Stephen by the Grateful Dead yesterday and when I read the lyrics, I had a little surprise.  The verse:

Wishing well with a golden bell
Bucket hanging clear to hell
Hell halfway twixt now and then
Stephen fill it up and lower down and lower down again

... well let's just say that's not what I thought the words were. Now my brain is confused and I can't even think of the words I use when I sing it.

It does change the meaning for me, although I'm not sure how yet ... I'll have to think about that.

*****
Adding on 6/26/11:

I was really curious to know what I had been singing all these years, so I listened to the song and let my mind go on auto pilot to see what lyrics I used.  It turns out, this is my version:

Wish him well with the Golden veil
bucket hair, ne'er do well
Hell, I've played tricks now and then
Stephen fill it up and throw it down and throw it down again

Although I never sat down and thoroughly thought about it, I'm pretty sure my mind decided this song was about a nomad.  Now I see it more as a sad old man who is near death.  I liked my original theory better.  So I go back to my title ... damn misheard lyrics!

I do love that music and lyrics can be interpretted differently by everyone.  That's part of the sheer beauty of it.  However, when I don't even have the lyrics right in the first place ... well, that's a different story.
